Description
Rooted in Hull is a small urban farm on the edge of Hull city centre, and the home of Urban Honey. It’s a community project where people grow, cook and share food, and where events celebrate local history, art, theatre and music. The onsite apiary is looked after by a small team and volunteers, many of whom come to the project through some form of adversity in their lives. As a Yorkshire beekeeper, the team is proud to be part of both Beverley Beekeepers and Yorkshire Beekeepers associations. The bees produce around 100 jars a year, straight from the hive into the jar with nothing added, and it sells out quickly. The hives were built by the team alongside a group of young people on the autistic spectrum, and the jar labels were designed by graphic design students at Hull prison. Volunteers get to suit up and work with the bees, which is a rare chance in a city, and the confidence boost alone makes the hives worthwhile. The team also helps other Yorkshire beekeepers across the region, including Frith Farm in Beverley, who return the favour with planting advice. Every jar supports a fairer, greener future for Hull and the surrounding area. Visit our Website.
